Quietly set apart on the south slope of
a mountain, the Green Mountain Retreat offers a place for contemplation,
fellowship, and restoration of the spirit!
This New England frame building, companion to the Barnet Center sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church of Barnet, was built in 1898 at a site that has now become a four-season center for worship, family reunions, group gatherings, educational activity, and work camps.

A full kitchen with restaurant-sized stove, two refrigerators, and plenty of pots and pans and dishes allows groups to enjoy preparing their own feasts. The two bathrooms, recently rebuilt, include showers as well as toilets and vanity sinks.
The dining area adjoins the kitchen, amply supplied with tables and chairs, plenty of wall space to hang stories and pictures, and a piano to enrich the group gatherings. Even on cloudy days this room is joyful and bright, a harmonious spot for planning, talking, singing, or teaching.
Within its white walls are golden hardwood floors, sunshine, and simple sleeping and dining space for up to forty people. Sturdy cots fill the high-ceilinged second floor dormitory, and more can be set up in the rear dining area.

A caring community will welcome you to the Retreat,
help you find the resources you need, and encourage your environmentally aware
interaction with the facilities. Trash
and recycling services are provided, and there is a telephone for emergency
calls.
The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont remains a treasure of rolling farmland, thick woods, and spectacular vistas. Around the Retreat are hundreds of acres of fields, forests, small ponds, and back roads to stroll.
Two miles from Interstate 91, yet securely nestled within New England’s rural life, the Retreat is within a few minutes drive of Harvey’s Lake and the villages of Barnet and West Barnet. Plan visits to the nearest large town, St. Johnsbury, to sample the region’s museums and maple products. Catch a traditional church supper or celebration.

Barnet is about half an hour from the un-crowded yet challenging ski slopes of Burke Mountain, and a few minutes further for Lake Willoughby’s spectacular hiking trails. You may see peregrine falcons, wild turkeys, deer, and maybe even a moose. Raccoons and squirrels will certainly stop by the retreat, and a birdwatcher’s paradise awaits you in the wetlands a mile up the mountain.

The
Green Mountain Retreat is part of a thriving country church that welcomes you
to this special corner of Vermont.
You are invited to join or contribute to Sunday services, and by special prearrangement may hold your own worship service in the neighborhood sanctuary, where straight backed pews and simple surroundings carry you back to an earlier, less cluttered era.
Take Interstate 91 to Exit 18, Barnet. Turn west and go two miles to the foot of the Barnet Center Road. Turn right: the church is less than a mile up the hill, and you can already see it. Drive right up to the front porch of the Green Mountain Retreat. Map
Do You Have any special needs or handicaps among your group that you would like us to know in advance?
Would You Like to participate in worship services while in the area? In what way? (Singing, offering to tell you group’s story, simply attending worship, or let us know what else you have in mind.)
Do You Need any other information about the region or the Retreat?
$8 per person per night up to 20 people, $7.50 for each additional person.
Day use fees by arrangement.
One third is due at the time you reserve the Retreat, and the balance is due on arrival. Please make a check payable to Presbyterian Church of Barnet.
You will need to bring your own sleeping bag or bedding and food. A flashlight is always a good idea in a rural environment. We ask that you leave the Retreat “broom clean” and ready for the next group.
