PNNE General Presbyter

The Rev. Dr. Richard O. Wyatt

Dr. Wyatt has been General Presbyter of Northern New England since January 2001.  He lives near the Presbytery office in southern New Hampshire with his family, wife Donna, son Chris, and daughter Alexa.

When asked why he wanted to be a General Presbyter, Wyatt replied, "The greatest work of our church is done in the congregations by members and pastors.  I am honored and excited to be in a calling that can facilitate and strengthen the worship and witness of our congregations."

Wyatt has had extensive administrative experience in several fields as well as experience in the parish.

After college graduation, Wyatt taught Jr. High School in Wisconsin before entering seminary and law school in Louisville.

His first call was as a tent-maker minister, with general pastoral duties, concentrating in community organizing. For the Presbytery, Dr. Wyatt served in several capacities, including Clerk, and also Moderator during the decision of reunion.  "I will never forget that meeting, and hearing the roll called so we could all voice support for the unity of our church."

In addition to working with an inner-city congregation for 12 years, he served as Assistant Attorney General for two administrations in Kentucky, heading the Consumer Services Section as well as serving as counsel to a variety of state agencies and prosecuting criminal appeals.  "A highlight of my tenure with the Attorney General was oral argument at the US Supreme Court."

While serving as a tent-maker, Wyatt also served two mayors of Louisville.  Part of these duties included serving as an administrative law judge.  He also was appointed Senior Arbitrator for the Louisville Better Business Bureau. Wyatt has also served as President of the Presbyterian Pan American School in Texas, Vice President of Barber-Scotia College in North Carolina, and Executive of Synod of the Rocky Mountains.  He has served three years on the General Assembly Council, 7 years as Trustee of Rocky Mountain College (Montana), and 4 years as Trustee of Wasatch Academy (Utah).
